Abstract

Academic procrastination is a common issue experienced by all university students, including those residing in dayah. This is due to the fact that students living in dayah are not solely focused on attending lectures, studying, and completing academic assignments. They are also engaged in other activities such as religious studies, managing the dayah, and participating in diniyah schools, among others. One of the factors contributing to academic procrastination is personality type. This study aims to see the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and academic procrastination among students of Malikussaleh University residing in dayah. A correlational quantitative approach was employed in this research. The subjects consisted of 212 collage students residing in dayah, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires on academic procrastination and the Big Five personality traits. Data analysis using f-test revealed that there is relationship between big five personality and academic procrastination. The t-tests result shows that there is a relationship between openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, and neuroticism with academic procrastination, while agreeableness has no relationship with academic procrastination.
