Abstract

ALIFA REZANI BR MILALA: The Effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) Approach Assisted by Manipulative Media on the Mathematical Problem-Solving Ability of High School Students. University Malikussaleh FKIP Mathematics Education Study Program, 2026. The low mathematical problem-solving ability of students is one of the issues identified at SMA Negeri 7 Lhokseumawe. One approach that can be applied to address this issue is the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach assisted by manipulative media. This study aims to determine the effect of the RME approach assisted by manipulative media on students' mathematical problem-solving ability. The research method used was quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent posttestonly control group design. The population of this study consisted of all tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 7 Lhokseumawe. The sample comprised class X-1 as the experimental group and class X-2 as the control group, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a mathematical problem-solving ability test administered after treatment (posttest). Hypothesis testing was conducted using the Independent Sample T-Test with SPSS 26 software at a significance level of 0.05. Based on the results of data analysis, a significance value of 0.002 was obtained. Since the p-value of 0.002 < 0.05, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach assisted by manipulative media on the mathematical problem-solving ability of students at SMA Negeri 7 Lhokseumawe. Keywords: Mathematical Problem-Solving Ability, Manipulative Media, and Realistic Mathematics Education (RME).
