Abstract

ABSTRACT Pityriasis versicolor (PV), also known as Tinea versicolor, is a chronic superficial fungal infection of the skin caused by Malassezia furfur, which is part of many microscopic organisms that normally live on the skin. Pityriasis versicolor generally infects the neck, face, trunk, arms, and thighs. Efforts that must be made to overcome this are through counseling to increase one's knowledge. An effective method of counseling is peer education. Peer education is learning that is done by choosing one person who becomes a peer educator in the group and who is trained to change knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. This study aims to see the effect of peer education in increasing knowledge about the prevention of Pityriasis versicolor in Aliyah students of Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Lhokseumawe City. The research method used is a preexperimental on 132 samples, with a total sampling technique of sampling. The results obtained during the study were analyzed using the Wilcoxon with p value. The average value at pretest was 9.79 and increased to an average of 11.35 at the posttest. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of peer education on knowledge of preventing Pityriasis versicolor in students of Senior High School of Islamic Boarding School Darul Ulum, Lhokseumawe.
