Abstract

This research is entitled School Control of Snacks (Study at Sultan Hasanuddin Private Elementary School). This research was conducted because in the school canteen of Sultan Hasanuddin Private Elementary School there were traders who sold snacks that were unhealthy for students, so the school made rules to traders about serving healthy snacks for students. Therefore, the school supervises traders so that they can follow the rules that have been set properly. This research aims to determine the school's efforts to control the snacks provided, as well as the factors that influence students' choices in choosing food in the school canteen. This research uses Travis Hirschi's social control theory perspective. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation studies. The results of the research show that the school's efforts to control snacks at the Sultan Hasanuddin Aek Kanopan Private Elementary School include implementing school rules against canteen traders, providing education to canteen traders and students about healthy food, limiting students' spending money, terminating cooperative relationships with traders who violate school rules, and impose sanctions on students who snack outside of school. Factors that influence students' behavior in choosing food are the availability of types of snacks in the canteen, buying snacks that taste delicious, liking to follow what their friends are buying, and interest in the packaging of the snacks.
