Abstract
ABSTRACT Muara Kuala Gigieng is an estuary that directly faces the Malacca Strait and borders Pidie Jaya Regency. The estuary of the Kuala Gigieng River is a place where fishing vessels using boats dock. The dense activity of fishermen can cause shallowing due to the sedimentation process. Sedimentation is the process of deposition of material from rocks that is transported by the movement of water and wind. Deposition that occurs continuously in the waters will result in shallowing which can cause accretion and ultimately reduce the role of the coast and disrupt the security of sea transportation routes. This research was carried out in June 2024. Sediment sampling was carried out at four observation stations using a survey method by determining sampling points using purposive sampling. The research results showed that the sedimentation rate at the Kuala Gigieng estuary, Meunasah Cot Jaja Village, Simpang Tiga District, Pidie Regency ranged between 129,57-1.210,81 mg/cm2/day. Meanwhile, the highest sedimentation rate value was obtained at station 3 with a value of 1.210,81 mg/cm2/day. The types of sediment fractions found at the four stations are coarse sand, somewhat coarse sand, fine sand, very fine sand and silt. The sediment fraction with the highest percentage is very fine sand with a percentage of 83% at station 4. The current speed at the four observation stations obtained values ranging from 0.17-0.24, where the highest current speed was at station 3, namely 0.24. The highest tide was on day 2 with a height of 140 cm at 12.00 WIB. Keywords: Current Speed, Muara Kuala Gigieng, Sedimentation, Sediment Fraction, Sedimentation Rate, Tides.
