Abstract

Shallots are one of the vegetable commodities that are widely used as a cooking spice. Proper cultivation techniques by improving soil conditions are one of the efforts to increase the production of shallots. Some of the materials used in efforts to increase the growth and yield of shallots are coffee skin compost and Paitan liquid organic fertilizer (POC). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of providing coffee skin compost and Paitan POC on the growth and yield of shallots. This research was conducted in Pulo Rungkom, Dewantara District, North Aceh Regency from March to May 2024. The design used in this study was a Randomized Block Design consisting of 2 factors. The first factor is coffee skin compost (K) and the second factor is Paitan POC (T). The results showed that providing coffee skin compost can increase plant height, number of leaves, number of bulbs, root weight, wet weight of bulbs and dry weight of shallot bulbs. Providing Paitan POC can increase plant height, root weight, wet weight and dry weight of shallot bulbs. However, the results of the study showed that there was no interaction between the provision of coffee skin compost and bitter POC on the growth of shallots. The best treatment was found in K2 with a dose of 150 g/polybag and T2 with a concentration of 50 ml/liter of water. Keywords Waste, fertilizer, soil conditioner, vegetables, cooking spices.
