Abstract

Green mustard (Brassica juncea L.) is a leafy vegetable from the Cruciferae family, recognized for its high economic value and its ability to thrive in soil-free hydroponic systems. Hydroponics, as an alternative cultivation method, heavily relies on nutrient provision through water solutions. AB Mix nutrients are essential for the productivity of hydroponic plants, as they contain both macro and micronutrients. This study aims to evaluate the effects of varying AB Mix nutrient concentrations and types of growing media on the growth of green mustard in hydroponic systems. The study employed a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors: growing media (M1) rockwool, (M2) cocopeat, and (M3) rice husk biochar; and AB Mix concentrations (K1) 3 ml/liter, (K2) 5 ml/liter, and (K3) 7 ml/liter, with three replications, resulting in 27 experimental units. Parameters measured included plant height, number of leaves, chlorophyll content, root length, fresh leaf weight, fresh root weight, and total fresh weight. The results indicated that variations in AB Mix concentration and type of growing media significantly affected the growth and yield of green mustard. A concentration of 5 ml/liter of nutrient solution with rockwool media yielded the most optimal results. The interaction between AB Mix nutrient treatments and growing media influenced plant height, number of leaves, total fresh weight, and fresh leaf weight, with the combination of a 5 ml/liter nutrient concentration and rockwool media producing the most favorable harvest.
