Abstract

This study examines the political communication styles of presidential candidates in the 2024 election debates from the perspective of student activists. Political communication style is crucial for presidential candidates to garner votes in electoral contests. Election debates serve as a platform to showcase candidates' communication styles through their responses to issues and their presentation of visions, missions, and policy agendas, aiming to gain acceptance and capture public attention. The aim of this research is to understand how student activists interpret the political communication styles displayed by presidential candidates during the 2024 election debates. The theoretical framework employed is Tubbs and Moss's theory of communication styles. The research methodology adopts a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews and documentation. The findings reveal that Anies Baswedan employs The Structuring Style and The Dynamic Style in his communication, while Prabowo Subianto uses The Controlling Style, The Dynamic Style, and The Withdrawal Style. Additionally, Ganjar Pranowo utilizes The Equalitarian Style and The Dynamic Style. This study highlights the absence of prior research specifically exploring student activists' perspectives on presidential candidates' political communication styles within the context of election debates. Keywords: Student Activists, Presidential Candidates, Election Debates, Communication Styles, Political Communication, Electoral Contest.
