Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of concentration and soaking time of young corn extract on the viability and vigor of Moringa seeds experiencing dormancy due to a hard seed coat. The study was conducted at the Agroecotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Malikussaleh University, in January 2024, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: the concentration of young corn extract (control, 15%, and 30%) and soaking time (12, 18, and 24 hours) with three repetitions. The parameters observed included maximum growth potential, germination capacity, vigor index, growth speed, growth synchrony, dry weight of normal sprouts, shoot height, root length, and wet weight of normal sprouts. The results showed that the concentration of young corn extract significantly influenced germination, vigor index, growth speed, growth synchrony, dry weight of normal sprouts, shoot height, root length, and wet weight of normal sprouts. However, soaking time did not significantly affect any of the observed parameters. There was an interaction between concentration and soaking time on germination, growth speed, growth synchrony, root length, and wet weight of normal seedlings. Further research is needed to determine the optimal natural PGR concentration and soaking time to enhance the growth of moringa seeds.
