Abstract

ABSTRACT Name : Karina Study Program : Economics Development Title : An Analysis of Leading Sectors Influencing Economic Growth in Binjai City This study aims to determine which sectors are the leading/basic sectors and to assess the extent of their influence on the economic growth of Binjai City. This quantitative study uses secondary data on economic growth at constant prices based on Regency/City and GRDP levels according to business fields, covering 12 years from 2011-2022, provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of North Sumatra Province. The study employs the Location Quotient (LQ) method to identify leading or base sectors and Multiple Linear Regression to determine the influence of these leading sectors on the economic growth of Binjai City. The results of the study identified six leading sectors. Three of them have high average LQ values, namely the Manufacturing Industry sector with a value of 1.4, Corporate Services with a value of 1.80, and Real Estate with a value of 13.79. The Manufacturing Industry sector has a positive and significant influence on economic growth in Binjai City, while the Corporate Services and Real Estate sectors have no significant effect on economic growth in Binjai City. Keywords: Leading Sector, Economic Growth, Location Quotient, Multiple Linear Regression.
