Abstract
This research was conducted in Gampong Alue Drien, Birem Bayeun District, East Aceh Regency. This research was conducted because the farmers of Gampong Alue Drien are not yet fully independent despite their long careers. Farmers do not have the freedom to choose marketing according to their wishes. Furthermore, farmers are still trapped in the control of other parties, so most of them are still dependent on these parties for regulation. In fact, some farmers still can't decide which farm they want. This research aims to identify the social capital and independence of farmer groups and analyze the relationship between social capital and independence of farmer groups in Gampong Alue Drien. This research uses descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis, namely validity test, reliability test and Rank-Spearman correlation. The results of this research show that there is a relationship between social capital and the independence of farmer groups in Gampong Alue Drien. The results of the Rank-Spearman correlation analysis show that each variable has a correlation coefficient value > r table and a SIG value (2-tailed) < 0.05. Keywords: farmers, farming, independence, relationships, social capital.
