Abstract

ABSTRACT Sitophilus oryzae L. is a pest that attacks grain commodities including rice in storage warehouses. This study aims to learn the damage and susceptibility of several local rice varieties from Aceh Tamiang after S. oryzae infestation. This study was conducted from November 2023 to February 2024 in the laboratory of plant Pest and Disease, Agriculture Faculty, Malikussaleh University. The local rice consisted of varieties namely Ngaos, Salah Mayang, Peringgandani, Rias, Serang Batu, Jongkong, Sipirok, and Ciherang. Evaluation of rice susceptibility was carried out in a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The results showed that Aceh Tamiang local rice had different susceptibility values which were classified as susceptible and moderate. Rias and Salah Mayang varieties were classified as susceptible, meanwhile Ngaos, Peringgandani, Serang Baru, Jongkong, Sipirok, and IR 32 were classified as moderate to S. oryzae attacks during storage. Rice susceptibilty can be affected by the number of F1 and short median development time. The high level of damage and reduced weight loss of rice can affect its susceptibility and classified as susceptible to S. oryzae attacks. Keywords: Local Rice, Sitophilus oryzae, Susceptibility Index.
