Abstract

ABSTRACT SHELLY YANTI: Analysis of Students' Learning Interest and Motivation in the Implementation of Chemistry Practicum at Public Senior High Schools in Lhokseumawe. Undergraduate Thesis, Chemistry Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Malikussaleh University, 2026. This study aimed to determine the level of students' learning interest, the level of students' motivation, and the relationship between students' learning interest and motivation with the implementation of chemistry practicum at SMA Negeri 2 Lhokseumawe, SMA Negeri 5 Lhokseumawe, and SMA Negeri 7 Lhokseumawe. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The population consisted of 669 tenth- and eleventh-grade students, while the sample comprised 250 students selected using the Slovin formula through Probability Sampling with the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling technique. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed descriptively, followed by a normality test using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and hypothesis testing using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that students' learning interest in the implementation of chemistry practicum was categorized as moderate. Students' motivation in the implementation of chemistry practicum was also categorized as moderate. The Spearman Rank correlation test revealed a positive and significant relationship between learning interest and the implementation of chemistry practicum, with a strong correlation. In addition, there was a positive and significant relationship between students' motivation and the implementation of chemistry practicum, with a very strong correlation. These findings indicate that higher levels of students' learning interest and motivation are associated with better implementation of chemistry practicum activities. Keywords: learning interest, students' motivation, chemistry practicum implementation, Spearman Rank.
