Abstract

ABSTRACT Kayla Nazifa: Reading Literacy of Seventh-Grade Students at SMPN 1 Kuala. Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Malikussaleh University, 2026. This study aims to describe the reading literacy levels of 7th-grade students at SMPN 1 Kuala based on literal, interpretative, critical, and creative aspects as well as the factors influencing them. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach. The total population consisted of 168 students, while the sample comprised 50 7th-grade students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through reading literacy tests, closed ended interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis, supplemented by a descriptive analysis of the interview results. The findings indicate that the students' reading literacy proficiency falls into the "very good" category, with an average score of 95.7. The average scores for the specific aspects were 96.7 (literal), 95.6 (interpretative), 94.4 (critical), and 96.7 (creative). Reading literacy proficiency is influenced by internal factors namely interest, motivation, and reading habits and external factors, such as parental support, the role of teachers, the availability of reading materials, and learning facilities.
