Abstract
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women globally in 2023 will reach 35.5%. In Indonesia, based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women is 27.7%. This study aims to determine the relationship between parity and age of pregnant women and the incidence of iron deficiency anemia. Methods: This study is an analytical quantitative research with an exm post facto design and a retrospektive cross-sectional observation approach with a sample of 227 pregnant women at Cut Meutia Hospital, North Aceh, in the period of 2022–2024. Data on parity, age and status of iron deficiency anemia were obtained from secondary data in the form of medical records, for iron deficiency anemia status was determined based on the results of hemoglobin, MCV, and MCH examinations. Results: The results showed that the majority of pregnant women including multiparas were 96 people (42.3%), with 46.9% experiencing iron deficiency anemia and 53.1% not experiencing iron deficiency anemia. The results of the Chi-Square test showed a value of p = 0.494 (p > 0.05), which means that there was no significant relationship between parity status and the incidence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women. Based on age, most pregnant women were at a healthy reproductive age of 21–35 years as many as 166 people (73.1%), with 41.0% experiencing iron deficiency anemia and 59.0% not experiencing iron deficiency anemia. The results of the Chi-Square test showed a value of p = 0.265 (p > 0.05), which means that there was no significant relationship between age and the incidence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women. Conclusion: Parity and age of pregnant women are not related to the incidence of iron deficiency anemia. Keywords: Parity, Age, Iron Deficiency Anemia, Pregnancy
