Abstract

ABSTRACT White snapper (Lates calcarifer) is a type of fish that has high economic value. The production of snapper fry in Indonesia is still largely produced from fishing in the sea, and only a small part is produced from cultivation (cultivation). The problem that often occurs in cultivation is changes in fluctuating water quality parameters. One of the fluctuating water quality factors is temperature which affects the growth and survival of fish. One way to stabilize the temperature is to install a heater to control the temperature. This research was conducted in October 2020, at the Hatchery and Cultivation Technology Laboratory of the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Malikussaleh University. This study aims to determine the effect of temperature on the growth of white snapper fry and to determine the optimal temperature for growth and survival of white snapper (Lates calcarifer). The method used in this research is using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments 3 times repetition, treatment A at 28oC, treatment B at 30oC, treatment C, and treatment D at 34oC. The results showed that the effect of C at 32o temperature differences on growth and survival of white snapper (Lates calcarifer) had a significant effect on length, weight, and survival, but had no effect on feed conversion. The best results were in treatment B (30oC) with an increase in length of 1.98 cm, weight of 1.55 g, survival of 87.65% and feed conversion of 0.91. Observation of water quality during the study was still in the optimal range, namely temperature 28oC-34oC, pH 7-7,7, dissolved oxygen 4-5,7 mg / l, salinity 28-33 ppt. Key words: snapper, temperature, growth, survival
