Abstract

Engineering students at Universitas Malikussaleh require a comfortable, affordable gathering place that also supports academic activities such as discussions or group study. However, the financial limitations of many students, including recipients of the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP), make location and café prices significant factors in choosing a venue. This study aims to determine the ideal student café location using the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method as a Decision Support System. The SAW method was chosen for its ability to objectively process multi-criteria data by assigning specific weights to each criterion. The research was conducted within the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Malikussaleh, with primary data collected through interviews and direct observations of several alternative café locations. The criteria considered include menu prices, comfort, service, distance from campus, and supporting facilities. The SAW calculation results indicate that the alternative location with the highest score is the best option to meet the needs of engineering students. The system was also designed and implemented as a web-based application using PHP and MySQL, and tested with both black-box and white-box methods to ensure functional reliability. This study provides strategic implications for data-driven decision-making in campus facility development and may serve as a reference for other institutions in designing business locations that holistically support student life.
