Abstract
ABSTRACT This research aims to analyze the diversity of shark species landed at the Fish Landing Base (PPI) Rigaih, Aceh Jaya District, and to examine their conservation status. Data were collected through direct observation methods and morphological identification of the catch of fishermen landing sharks at the research site. The results showed that the diversity of shark species was relatively low with a Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') value of 0.70 (H'<1), indicating the dominance of certain species. The species Sphyrna lewini (Great hammerhead) dominated the catch with a proportion of 82.72%, while other species such as Alopias pelagicus, Carcharhinus melanopterus, Carcharhinus tjutjot, Chiloscyllium hasselti, and Scoliodon macrorhynchos were found in very small numbers. The majority of sharks caught were sexually immature individuals. This finding indicates the potential for high fishing pressure on shark populations, particularly those that have not yet reproduced. Therefore, appropriate conservation measures are needed to maintain the sustainability of shark populations in Aceh Jaya waters. Keywords: Conservation, CITES, IUCN, Shark, PPI Rigaih
