Abstract

Kata Kunci: Anak berkebutuhan khusus, Regulasi Emosi, Ayah, Ibu. v ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the differences in emotional regulation between fathers and mothers who have children with special needs in Lhokseumawe City. The background of the problem shows that parents with children with special needs often experience negative emotions such as sadness and stress. Previous studies have often focused only on mothers, so this study attempts to fill the gap by involving the role of fathers. The research method used is quantitative comparative, with a population of 199 parents of children with special needs in Lhokseumawe. The sample consists of 134 respondents, determined using the Slovin formula and quota sampling technique. Data collection was conducted through an emotional regulation scale questionnaire based on five aspects of Gross's theory (2014). The analysis results showed significant differences in emotional regulation between fathers and mothers through hypothesis testing, with sig > 0.014 (Ha accepted and Ho rejected). These differences were influenced by gender roles, daily involvement in childcare, the type of child disability, and social support. This research significantly shows differences in emotional regulation between fathers and mothers who have children with special needs in Lhokseumawe. Keywords: Children with special needs, Emotion regulation, father, mother.
