Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the relationship between body image and anxiety among Instagram using students at Malikussaleh University. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a correlational research design. The sample consisted of 385 university students who actively use Instagram. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling, a method in which participants are selected based on chance encounters with the researcher provided that these individuals are deemed suitable as data sources. Data analysis revealed a negative correlation between body image and anxiety among the Instagram-using students at Malikussaleh University, with a correlation contribution of 17.30%. This indicates that the higher an individual's body image, the lower their level of anxiety, and conversely, the lower the body image, the higher the anxiety level. These findings highlight the significant role of body image perception in influencing psychological well-being, particularly in the context of visually driven social media platforms such as Instagram. Further analysis of body image dimensions showed that appearance orientation had the strongest positive correlation with anxiety. This suggests that greater preoccupation with physical appearance is associated with higher levels of anxiety. In contrast, the body size categorization aspect exhibited a negative correlation with anxiety, indicating that individuals who feel comfortable with their body size tend to experience lower levels of anxiety.Keywords: body image, Instagram, anxiety, university students Keywords: body image, Instagram, anxiety, university students
