Abstract
ABSTRACT Myristica fragrans Houtt, also known as nutmeg, is a spice plant native to Maluku Province. Nutmeg has high economic value as well as various benefits and functions other than as a kitchen spice. Nutmeg seeds have a hard shell that causes resistance and inhibits seed germination. This condition is called mechanical dormancy, so it takes 4-8 weeks to germinate. This research was conducted in the experimental garden of Malikhusshaleh University, from January 2024 to March 2024. This study used a randomized complete factorial design with 3 replications. The first factor observed was no scarification, base scarification and scarification of two parts of the base and tip, the second factor was KNO3 concentration of 1.5%, 2.5%, 3.5%. The variables observed were maximum growth potential, viability and vigor of seeds and their uniformity. The results showed that there was a significantly different interaction between scarification and KNO3 concentration on maximum growth potential, growth uniformity and growth speed.
