Abstract

ABSTRAK Estuary is a transition area between land and sea or where fresh water meets sea water so that estuaries have brackish properties. One of the estuary waters can be found in the Krueng Mane area. The Krueng Mane estuary area is used as a place to dispose of waste from human activities such as settlements, agriculture, fisheries and in the estuary area there is coastal tourism. Pollution can cause economic and ecological losses in the form of decreased productivity of aquatic life, death of fish and other marine biota, damage or decreased aesthetic value, but can also endanger health and even death of humans who use the waters or humans who consume marine biota in it. Pollution index is one of the methods used to determine the status of water quality, so it is necessary to conduct research on the study of seawater quality and seawater quality status around the Krueng Mane estuary to determine the level of pollution around the estuary. This study aims to analyze the water quality in the Krueng Mane estuary in terms of oceanographic parameters, and to analyze the status of seawater quality based on the Krueng Mane estuary water pollution index. The benefits of this study are to provide information to the public and readers regarding the quality of waters and pollution indexes in the Krueng Mane estuary waters. This study was conducted in August in the Krueng Mane estuary waters. The method used in this study is the survey method by determining station points using purposive sampling. The results of the study for the analysis of pollution indexes indicate that the Krueng Mane estuary waters at stations 1, 2 and 3 are included in the moderate pollution category based on the quality status of the marine biota designation while the port designation is included in the light pollution category.
