Abstract

Oil palm is a plantation commodity that plays an important role in the Indonesian economy. One of the pests that can damage the largest oil palm plants in the entire Southeast Asia region is the rhinoceros beetle pest or commonly called Oryctes rhinoceros. Chemical insecticides cause various negative effects and require environmentally friendly alternative technologies, namely biological control, one of which is the Metarhizium fungus. Efficacy testing was conducted in the Pest and Disease Laboratory with the type of treatment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The research treatment was taken from several locations that received a total of 9 local isolates. Each local isolate treatment was repeated 3 times so that there were 27 experimental units. In the application, single and mixed efficacy were carried out to determine the highest mortality rate due to the efficacy. Single efficacy and mixed efficacy tests that have been carried out on mortality observations of rhinoceros beetle larvae obtained results that the highest mortality was obtained in the Cot Girek 1 + Cot Girek 1 isolat of 100% and then the next highest mortality was in the Nisam 1 + Nisam 1 isolat with a mortality of 93.33%. While the lowest mortality rate was Juli 1 of 46.67%. The fastest lethal time (LT50) needed to reduce 50% of the rhinoceros beetle larvae population was in the Cot Girek 1 + Cot Girek 1 isolat, which was 8.629 days, while the longest lethal time occurred in Juli 1, which was 13.313 days needed to reduce 50% of the Oryctes rhinoceros beetle larvae population. The highest spore density was found in the Cot Girek 1 + Cot Girek 1 isolat at 92×106, while the lowest spore density was found in Juli 1 at 18×106. The incubation period is the time period for the fungus Metarhizium anisopliae to cause symptoms of infection in the rhinoceros beetle larvae. In observing the incubation period, the results showed that the fastest infection period was in the Cot Girek 1 + Cot Girek 1 isolate, namely 4.67 days after application and the longest infection period was in Juli 1 and Cot Girek 1 isolate, namely both were infected at 7.33 days after application.
