Abstract
ABSTRACT Sweet kaffir lime (Citrus hsytrix) is one of the citrus species that is rich in essential oil content. The cultivation of sweet kaffir lime has many challenges in its propagation and expansion, which results in the endangred of sweet kaffir lime plants. Exploration and characterization of sweet kaffir lime plants are important as a solution to the problem of propagation and an attempt to preserve germplasm by enriching its genetic diversity. This research aimed to determine the morphological diversity and fruit quality of sweet kaffir lime and its similarity with the national variety of common kaffir lime. This research was conducted in North Aceh and Agroecotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Malikussaleh from December 2023 to April 2024. The research was conducted in two stages. The first stage was the exploration of sweet kaffir lime plants, the second stage was the morphological characterization of plants, and the quality test of sweet kaffir lime fruit. The results showed that local Aceh sweet kaffir lime fruit plants were still found. In North Aceh District, namely Gunci, Banda Baro, Bangka Jaya, Ulee Nyeue, Keude Sawang, and Lancang Barat. Local Aceh sweet kaffir lime plants showed distinctive and unique morphological and fruit quality characteristics. Some prominent characteristics include: Stem and leaf morphology that shows certain genetic variations. Sweet kaffir lime fruit has a greater weight, diameter, and length compared to regular kaffir lime, as well as a sweeter flavor. Aceh's local sweet kaffir lime has a similarity coefficient of 62% with kaffir lime based on morphological markings and fruit quality. Keywords: characterization, exploration, fruit, leaves, stems.
