Abstract

ABSTARCT Sweet corn is one of the most popular horticultural crops due to its delicious taste, high carbohydrate, protein, and vitamin content, as well as its relatively high sugar content and low fat content. Sweet corn production in Indonesia is relatively low, influenced by soil fertility and cultivation technology. The application of nitrogen fertilizer and compost is one way to increase yields. This study aims to determine the effect of nitrogen fertilizer and compost on the growth and production of sweet corn plants. This research was conducted in Reuleut Timu Village, Muara Batu Subdistrict, North Aceh Regency, and in the Agroecotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University Malikussaleh, from May to July 2024. Using a two-factor Randomized Group Design (RAK). The observed parameters were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, flowering age, cob weight, cob length, sweetness level, and production per hectare. The results showed that the application of nitrogen fertilizer had a very significant effect on plant height, stem diameter, cob length with cob, cob weight per bed, sweetness level, and production per hectare, as well as a significant effect on plant height, cob length, and cob diameter. Compost application showed a very significant effect on plant height, stem diameter, cob weight, and number of rows per cob, as well as a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, cob length without cob, cob diameter without cob, cob weight per bed, and production. There was an interaction effect between nitrogen fertilizer and compost on stem diameter, cob weight, cob length, and cob diameter with and without cob.
