Abstract

ABSTRACT Paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella volvaceae) an edible mushroom that contains 52.12% protein, 10.07% fiber, 6.03% fat, and 43.45% carbohydrate. This species can be cultivated on composted media such as straw, empty palm bunches, bagasse, sago pulp. The addition of EM-4 (Effective Microorganism 4) bacteria accelerates the rate of composting so that the media will break down more quickly into compost and is ready to be used as a medium for growing mushrooms. This research was conducted in Sawang, North Aceh in April-May 2022. This study used a completely randomized design with four factors, namely K0 = rice straw+ lime+rice bran (which is the basic formula), K1 = rice straw+lime+bran+corn flour, K2 = rice straw+lime+rice bran+mung bean flour, K3=rice straw+lime+ rice bran+sago starch, and EM-4 application in composting, namely P1=EM-4 10 ml, P1=EM-4 20 ml/L, P3=Composting with 30 ml/L EM-4. The variables observed were the emergence of pin head stadia, harvest frequency, diameter, length, number of fruiting bodies and weight of fruiting bodies. The results showed that the media had a very significant effect on the growth and yield of merang mushrooms, namely increasing weight, length, diameter, harvest frequency, and accelerating the emergence of pin head stadia. While the provision of EM-4 has no effect on all observation parameters. Keywords: mushroom, medium, microorganisms
