Abstract

ABSTRACT Laut Tawar Lake is located in the high Gayo, Takengon City, Central Aceh Regency at an altitude of 1.230 above sea level. Increased activities in the catchment area caused in degradation of the functions and resources of the Laut Tawar Lake. The research aimed to look at the spatial and temporal distribution of total phosphorus and abundance of microalgae and also to know the correlation of total phosphorus toward the abundance of microalgae. The research was conducted in October-November 2021 by using survey methods and the sampling was carried out in purposive sampling at 7 stations with 2 depth points (fotic and afotic). Sampling frequency once in a week. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively, comparative, correlation and regression used SPSS 25 and Microsoft Excel 2016 programs. The results of this research showed that an average of total phosphorus was 33,57 ± 10,672 μg/L and abundance of microalgae was 36.518 ± 13.847 cells/L. Comparative tests of total phosphorus horizontally and temporally showed no significant difference, but there was a significant difference vertically. Comparative tests of abundance of microalgae horizontally showed significant differences, but no significant differences vertically and temporally. The correlation of total phosphorus and abundance of microalgae in Laut Tawar Lake, Central Aceh is classified as very weak with a correlation coefficient (R) of -0,143. The effect of total phosphorus on abundance of microalgae is very low with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0,0421 (4,21%). Keywords: abundance, correlation, microalgae, total phosphorus
