Abstract

ABSTRACT Sapodilla plant seeds are classified as seeds that have a hard and impermeable skin layer, which causes Sapodilla seeds to experience dormancy. Treatment of dormancy breaking on the hard Sapodilla seed skin can be done by scarification and soaking of banana stump extract. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of scarification and soaking of banana stump extract and the interaction of the two against the germination of Sapodilla seeds. This research was conducted at the Universitas Malikussaleh experimental garden. This study was conducted for 2 months starting from March 2024 to May 2024. The method used in this study is a random Design Group (rack) 2 factorial. Scarification treatment Factor (S) consists of 3 levels, namely: S0 = whithout scarification (control), S1 = scarification by sanding and S2 = scarification by cracking. Soaking treatment factor (P) consists of 3 levels, namely: P0 = Aquades 100% (control), P1 = banana stump extract 50%, P2 = banana stump extract 75%. Observation variables are maximum growth potential, germination, vigor index, synchronicity of growth and speed of growth. The results showed that there was an interaction between scarification treatment and soaking of banana stump extract on seed viability an vigor were observed. Scarification and soaking treatment effect on germination variables, vigor index, uniformity of growth, and speed of growth. Keywords: Seed, Viability, Vigor
