Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia's high and persistent structural dependency on foreign soybean imports, which stems from a growing disparity between continuously rising national food consumption and limited domestic agricultural production capacity, forms the primary background of this research study. This study specifically aims to examine and analyze the influence of domestic soybean consumption, the world soybean price, and the domestic soybean price on the total volume of soybean imports into Indonesia. The empirical data utilized in this investigation consist of secondary time-series data gathered from official institutional databases and are quantitatively evaluated using the comprehensive multiple linear regression analysis method, accompanied by rigorous classical assumption testing as well as statistical significance tests. The empirical findings demonstrate that simultaneously, domestic soybean consumption, the world soybean price, and the domestic soybean price exert a statistically significant collective impact on the volume of soybean imports into Indonesia. On a partial basis, both domestic soybean consumption and the domestic soybean price show a positive and statistically significant relationship with the import volume, indicating that higher national demand and elevated local market prices further stimulate reliance on imported agricultural commodities. Conversely, the world soybean price exhibits a negative and non-significant effect on the overall quantity of soybean imports entering the country. In conclusion, the continuously increasing national consumption rate alongside rising prices in the domestic market serve as the primary driving forces behind the substantial surge in Indonesia's soybean import volume, thereby underscoring the critical necessity for comprehensive agricultural government policies focused on expanding domestic supply, optimizing farming infrastructure, providing targeted technical assistance to local farmers, and revitalizing local soybean production to effectively minimize long-term import dependency and achieve national food sovereignty. Keywords: Domestic Soybean Consumption, Domestic Soybean Price, World Soybean Price, Multiple Linear Regression, Soybean Import Volume.
