Abstract
ABSTRACT (Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei) EHP disease is one of the illnesses that can stunt the growth of vannamei shrimp because it attacks the hepatopancreas organ. This study aims to find out the clinical symptoms, histopathological appearance of the hepatopancreas, and water quality conditions in vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farming in intensive ponds in North Aceh Regency. The research was conducted in October 2025 using observation methods with descriptive analysis. A total of 100 Pacific white shrimp were collected from four intensive shrimp farming locations. Observations included clinical signs, histopathological examination of the hepatopancreas using Hematoxylin–Eosin (H&E) staining, and measurement of water quality parameters. The results showed that shrimp from Geudong, Dewantara, and Krueng Mane exhibited clinical signs indicating EHP infection, while shrimp from Panton Labu were in normal condition. Histopathological examination revealed the presence of EHP spores accompanied by tissue alterations, including cell lysis, vacuolization, tissue lysis, and necrosis with varying levels of severity among the sampling locations. In addition, several water quality parameters were outside the optimal range for Pacific white shrimp culture. It can be concluded that EHP infection was detected in three of the four intensive shrimp farming areas Geudong, Dewantara, and Krueng Mane in North Aceh Regency and caused histopathological changes in the hepatopancreas. Suboptimal water quality was considered one of the factors contributing to the occurrence of EHP infection.
