Abstract

Kata kunci: Dampak KDRT, Kekerasan dalam rumah tangga, pelaku KDRT, Regulasi emosi. v ABSTRACT Children whose fathers perpetrate domestic violence are at risk of experiencing various forms of emotional distress due to witnessing violence within the family environment. Such experiences can affect a child's ability to recognize, manage, and express emotions adaptively. This study aims to gain insight into the emotional regulation of children whose fathers are perpetrators of domestic violence. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was employed. The study involved four children whose fathers were perpetrators of domestic violence; all subjects lived with both parents and had witnessed domestic violence committed by their fathers for at least two years. Data collection techniques included semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The results indicate that the subjects experienced various negative emotions—such as fear, sadness, anger, anxiety, and a sense of helplessness—in response to witnessing domestic violence. Nevertheless, each subject demonstrated different ways of managing these emotions, such as limiting interactions with their fathers, diverting attention to specific activities, seeking support from close individuals, or attempting to protect their mothers during violent episodes. The study also found that witnessing domestic violence had lasting psychological impacts, including the development of negative views regarding marriage, poor personal relationships with their fathers, and—in one subject—self-harming behavior. The study concludes that the experience of witnessing domestic violence shapes complex emotional regulation dynamics and influences the child's psychological well-being. Parents are advised to avoid arguing in front of their children to prevent adverse consequences. Keywords: Domestic violence, domestic violence perpetrator, emotional regulation, Impact of domestic violence.
